Mentorship Program
A program that connects aspiring and experienced risk professionals, fostering growth, knowledge-sharing, and career development.
The RMIA Mentorship Program, facilitated by the RMIA, in partnership with RMIA State Chapters, offers a structured yet flexible platform for RMIA members to establish meaningful mentoring relationships.
This program is a cornerstone of RMIA’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and collaborative risk management community. By connecting emerging professionals with seasoned experts, RMIA aims to equip its members with the practical frameworks, skills, and knowledge necessary to lead their organisations effectively in an evolving risk landscape. Whether you’re seeking guidance or offering your expertise, this program is designed to support meaningful connections and elevate the future of risk management.
Why participate in the mentorship program?
RMIA’s Mentorship Program provides:
For Early-Career Professionals: An invaluable opportunity to build a professional relationship with an experienced risk practitioner who can offer tailored support, guidance, and career advice.
For Experienced Professionals: A chance to give back to the risk community by mentoring colleagues, honing leadership and mentoring skills, and contributing to the development of future risk leaders.
“The program exceeded my expectations, providing valuable insights and practical advice. It helped me tackle several challenges I had been struggling with for a while. The program was very well-organised, and the support and communication from RMIA throughout were top-notch.”
Jason Moore, Mentee
“Being a mentor to a mentee changes the mentor’s perspective as further (younger) knowledge is also attained. A mentor is also secretly a mentee in its own way.”
Robert Rochery, Mentor
“I would highly recommend the mentoring program as it is a great way to stay in touch with an ever-changing workforce.”
Dave Owens, Mentor
Program overview
This program is designed to be:
Voluntary: Participation is entirely optional but highly rewarding.
Flexible: Meetings can be conducted face-to-face or virtually, based on mutual agreement.
Time-Bound: The initial commitment is three or six months, state dependent, with an option to extend based on the mentor and mentee’s preference.
Roles and responsibilities
Mentees are responsible for:
Scheduling meetings at mutually convenient times.
Determining the meeting format (in-person or virtual).
Preparing to discuss specific risk topics or challenges.
Completing agreed-upon actions from previous meetings.
Participating in two feedback surveys: one six weeks into the program and another at the end, to help RMIA improve the program.
Mentors are responsible for:
Attending scheduled meetings or rescheduling if necessary due to work commitments.
Providing constructive feedback, guidance, and support tailored to the mentee’s goals.
Being flexible and open with their time and advice.
Participating in two feedback surveys to provide insights for program enhancement.
Program accountability and reporting
Both mentors and mentees are encouraged to share regular updates with their respective RMIA Chapter Presidents. This ensures accountability, transparency, and an opportunity to address any concerns that may arise during the program.
Join the RMIA Mentorship Program
Individual State Chapters will send out an EOI to all RMIA members prior to each mentorship cycle. Whether you’re an emerging risk professional eager to grow or an experienced practitioner looking to give back, the Mentorship Program offers a platform to build meaningful connections, develop skills, and strengthen the risk management profession as a whole.
